Field Trips

Gorman is happy to offer school-wide sponsored  field trips for students this year. We have included a list of locations and ideas for you to pursue on your own. Field trips are a great way to spend time together, motivate, learn and improve understanding!

Field Trip Ideas

RSVP for EACH field trip to khaloviak@gormanlc.org with the following information:

  1. Students names and grades
  2. Other family members wishing to attend and their ages.
  3. IST name
  4. Contact phone number
  5. Mailing address

PLEASE NOTE:

  1. Gorman will pay for GLC students who attend.
  2. Once a final count has been sent to a field trip, participants will be confirmed and paid for. If a student and/or family members are unable to attend, payment must still be made to GLC, regardless of the reason for non-participation.
  3. Payment for non-GLC students is due at the time of the field trip. NO EXCEPTIONS. Payment must be exact cash or check ONLY.
  4. All GLC students in attendance must have their student ID card with them.
  5. All times listed are when the field trip starts. If you arrive late, your student will miss out on some fabulous learning opportunities so please always leave enough travel time to allow for traffic and to arrive 15 minutes early.

LA County Fair—Wednesday, September 15

This is free for all attending. Siblings and parents are welcome. We will all meet at the field trip gate at a 9:00 a.m. Late arrivals will not be allowed in. Parking tickets will be e-mailed or mailed to those who RSVP with their correct information.

Legoland Habitat for Humanity—Monday, October 11 at 10 a.m

Grades K-6. Siblings and parents may attend in limited numbers but may NOT attend the actual Habitat for Humanity class. Admission will be $8 for non-Gorman students.

Discovery Cube—Wednesday, November 17

Grades K-8 “Digestive Tract”; Grades 9-12 “Physics Quest”. $10 for adults, $8 for non-Gorman children. Students attending the field trip will receive a free ticket to return to the Discovery Cube for another day.

Jet Propulsion Lab—Wednesday, December 1 from 1-3:30 p.m

for Grades 7-12 ONLY. There is a lovely park and restaurants within walking distance as well as a visitor center for family members and parents not permitted on the tour. STROLLERS ARE NOT PERMITTED AT JPL. The tour includes instruction on planets and spacecraft, a tour of the spacecraft assembly room, and mission control room, then into a museum with models of spacecraft.

Logan’s Candies, Ontario—Date to be determined in late November, early December

This is open to all ages and will be in the evening approximately 5-7 p.m. There is no charge for adults, but all children are $3.95. This is a demonstration and tour of a candy cane making factory. Children will receive a small bag of candy at the end of the tour.

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium—Wednesday, January 12, time TBD

Grades K-12. More information to follow.

Whale Watching—Wednesday, February 9 at 10 a.m

Parents and non-GLC students are $15. All ages are welcome. We will leave from Balboa/Newport Harbor. Attendees need to arrive at least 15 minutes early as the boat will leave promptly at 10 a.m. Dress in layers and bring warm jackets.

More field trips are in the works but we are waiting for dates and confirmation from the potential field trip sites. As soon as we have more information, it will be posted here. Please check back frequently as links will be added to some of these field trips as well as other resources. A new list of potential field trips you can take on your own with your family is being compiled and will be added to this site soon.
